Carol was engaged to be married when we first met - and she actually did get married but realised as time passed that she wasn't happy. Our friendship would develop into a relationship over those few years and we finally started seeing each other at the beginning of 1987. This was difficult at first as Carol was still married - Annie was particularly upset being a staunch catholic - but we knew it was right for us and that was all that mattered at the time.
